What is Cluneal Neuralgia?
Clunealgia is inflammation of the cluneal nerve due to injury (such as impact) or compression (e.g., compression of the ischium on the cluneal nerve, or of the piriformis muscle). Since a nerve is responsible for the pain, it is classified as a neuralgia.
The cluneal nerve branches from the posterior cutaneous nerve and is located in the buttock. It passes under the, the sit bone, and extends down into the thigh.
What Are the Symptoms of Cluneal Neuralgia?
Cluneal neuralgia often causes pain in the following areas:
- • Groin crease
- • Buttock
- • Upper thigh
Symptoms vary between individuals, but those suffering from cluneal neuralgia often report sensations of electric shocks, stabbing pain, tingling, or burning.
How to Relieve Cluneal Neuralgia?
To relieve the pain, it is important to reduce pressure on the cluneal nerve.
As a health equipment manufacturer, we have designed a seat cushion that helps relieve cluneal neuralgia symptoms through the following features:
- • Pelvic angle adjustment: the Cluneal Cushion is thicker at the back to lift the buttocks and open the pelvis. This improved angle helps prevent forward abdominal compression that may aggravate the nerve.
- • Reduces pressure and compression: our unique fluid technology integrated into the cushion limits pressure while seated. The High Viscosity Fluid is a dense, adaptable liquid that shifts with body weight and movement, helping to evenly distribute pressure and avoid continuous strain on one point. In vehicles, it also absorbs shocks and vibrations.
- • Offloads painful areas: many individuals with clunealgia feel relief when sitting on a toilet seat, which avoids pressure on the sacroiliac/perineal area. We designed a cluneal neuralgia cushion with a recess shaped like a toilet seat to offload these regions and ease pain.
